"Elephant Logic" is the third episode of Sym-Bionic Titan. It debuted on October 1, 2010.

Overview[]

Ilana and Lance are having a hard time working as a team, so Octus consults children's television in an attempt to find a solution. Meanwhile, General Steel comes into possession of a mysterious rock. In his rush to uncover its secrets, he unleashes the monster within, a massive, electrical storm creature. Taking advice from the shows he's been watching, Octus gets Ilana and Lance to work together to defeat the storm creature.

Synopsis[]

Somewhere in the ocean a group of divers find and carry a very large, mysterious rock to a submarine. The scene then cuts to a TV interview with General Steel on the subject of whether the Sym-Bionic Titan is friend or foe. While the host argues that the Titan is a hero for saving the city from the fiery alien, Steel considers the Titan to be an alien threat and swears to prevent it from endangering the country. When the host questions if his army could be effective against the Titan, Steel hints that he has a trick up his sleeve.

In an open field, Ilana, Lance and Octus are performing a tactical drill with the Titan against some low impact missiles. Lance wants to attack the missiles with a sword, but Ilana wants to defend against them with a shield. As the argument gets worse there’s a strange power fluctuation that causes the Titan to enter flight mode. Lance and Ilana are soon arguing about how to use this new ability, causing the Titan to experience a system overload and crash. On the way home Lance and Ilana are too angry to speak to or even look at each other. Octus, disguised as their father and driving their car, is also quiet but is concerned instead of angry.

When the Lunis Family arrives at their house it’s night. Lance and Ilana go in ahead of Octus and as he exits the car he meets another family that lives around the block. The two young children are arguing over whose turn it is to hold their dog's leash, but the father solves the problem by mentioning something called "Animal Friends" and their behavior quickly improves. When Octus asks what "Animal Friends" is, the mother tells him it’s an educational program that teaches children skills such as teamwork. Meanwhile, Ilana and Lance need to write an oral report on the Battle of Little Big Horn for their history the next day. Ilana wants to write it now but Lance wants to put it off until he's done exercising. Even more annoyed with him, she decides to write the report herself.

That same night at a military base, General Steel is supervising a group of scientists studying the mystery rock from the ocean. Steel believes it could be from space and help them prepare for another giant alien attack. He orders it to be opened with a nuclear powered device called the X-18, but Solomon appears on a large monitor screen and warns him not to do it. Steel ignores him and bullies the scientists into using the X-18 on the rock, but it doesn't seem to do anything. However, the next morning there's a huge cylindrical storm cloud on the army base. The lead scientist tells Steel that the X-18 caused the cloud to come out of the rock. Steel thinks his forces will be enough to destroy it but he's soon proven wrong. When Solomon appears in person, he tells Steel that since he caused this mess it's up to him to stop it.

Meanwhile at the Lunis house, Lance finds Octus in the kitchen watching "Animal Friends" and cooking breakfast. When Octus sees how gloomy Lance is, he looks to the cartoon elephant on TV for a solution. The elephant asks his sad penguin friend what's wrong, so Octus asks Lance the same question. Lance complains that Ilana always wants her own way and doesn't understand him. Octus encourages him to try talking to her, but when Ilana appears in the kitchen doorway Lance is unable to say anything. Later in history Ilana volunteers to deliver her report first, forcing Lance to join her at the front of the room and read from the paper she wrote. It soon becomes obvious that her criticisms of General Custer are really about Lance and they get into a fight over it. The teacher interrupts and gives them one more chance to deliver the report the next day.

After Lance offers to meet Ilana in the library after school so they can write their report together. She agrees coldly but drops her tough behavior as soon as she's away from him. When she spots Octus standing at a window in his Newton disguise, she joins him there and he asks her what's wrong. Ilana complains that Lance always has to get his way and never listens to her. Newton gives her the same advice he gave Lance at home, and then changes the subject to a strange weather anomaly a long distance away. When the bell rings he leaves for but Ilana stays at the window and the sunny sky suddenly darkens with storm clouds. Later in the school library, Lance is looking for Ilana but Newton informs him that she has turned on her armor and gone out into the thunderstorm.

Steel's battle with the alien storm cloud has moved to the suburbs. He orders the use of an EMP weapon, but it seems to make the cloud more powerful and it starts shooting out destructive lightning bolts. Ilana uses her armor to analyze the cloud and discovers that it has Mutraddi DNA. Soldiers start shooting bombs at her so she flies to the other side of the cloud. A lightning strike causes her to fall, but Lance and Octus come to her aid. When more lightning bolts damage the surrounding area, they form the Titan. The cloud then shoots a lightning bolt toward a hospital. The Titan gets there first and prepares to defend the building but again Lance and Ilana disagree on how to do it. They manage to use both the sword and shield to save the hospital but the Titan's armor is smoking. When Lance and Ilana start arguing over what to do next, Octus plays a song from "Animal Friends" about teamwork and says that if Earth children can apply that principle in life, then so should they.

The storm cloud prepares to shoot another lightning bolt and the Titan takes the blast again. This makes some of their systems shut down and the outer armor could shatter from another attack. They make a plan to release the armor, absorb the energy of another attack and redirect it into the eye of the storm. The one problem is that in order for the plan to work they need to fly into the heart of the storm. After a shaky start they manage to get the Titan off the ground and into the cloud. They use both the sword and shield to fend off more blasts until they reach the heart of the storm. Then they open the Titan's armor, absorb the energy of another attack and successfully redirect it.

The storm cloud is finally destroyed but the Titan makes another crash-landing on top of General Steel's army base. Lance is the first to recover from the crash and sees Ilana lying unconscious nearby. Fearing the worst, he takes her in his arms and tries to wake her up. To his relief she does and Octus pops out from under a pile of rubble, apparently unharmed. The three of them make a run for it when they hear General Steel and his soldiers coming. Steel is furious to see his base destroyed and blames the Titan for it. Solomon, who has been present throughout the whole battle, leaves in his G3 airship. The next day at Sherman High School, Lance and Ilana's history teacher praises them on their successful oral report. When he asks how they improved so quickly, Octus as Newton replies that they used teamwork and tries very awkwardly to smile.
